The story
Probably a modern compound of El and Jane. The first element, El, may derive from the Hebrew אֵל (ʾĒl, “God”), as found in numerous personal names such as Elizabeth, Elijah, and Eleanor. The second element, Jane, is an English feminine given name ultimately derived from the Hebrew יוֹחָנָן (Yōḥānān, “Yahweh is gracious”). Thus, the name may be interpreted as meaning “God is gracious”, “God's gracious gift”, or “one graced by God”, although the name is most likely a modern coinage rather than a traditional historical name.
