- Chinese · derived from海山“seas and mountains”
- Russian · borrowed fromХаса́н
- English todayKhasan
Borrowed from Russian Хаса́н (Xasán). Further etymology is disputed as either: * from Mongolian, referring to a Mongol leader who died fighting rebel tribes, and was buried by his soldiers near Lake Khasan, or * from Chinese 海山 (Hǎishān, “seas and mountains”), referring to the local terrain.
