Today it means: An event in the Ediacaran, the result of the evolution of the through-gut (“alimentary canal”) (away from the alimentary sac with mouth-anus), and thus proper feces; allowing for the freeing of oxygen in the water column, sinking of carbon to the sea floor, fertilization of the sea floor, fossilization of coprolites, evolution of coprophagy.
