For example, according to a tablet dated 1777 in the Shap Pat Heung village alliance temple, a dispute arose between landowners in the Kam Tin village alliance, a wealthy stronghold of the powerful Teng lineage, and their tenants in the Shap Pat Heung village alliance, composed of several mixed-surname villages, over the size of the grain measure to be used in collecting rent.
