This narrative concerns almost exclusively the Oglála Lakotas and Sičhą́ǧu Lakotas (Upper Brulés) of the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations, respectively. There is a tendency to speak of these people as Pine Ridge and Rosebud Sioux, thus ignoring the older tribal designations. The Sičhą́ǧus are in fact officially known as the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, and the Oglálas as the Oglala Sioux Tribe, on the basis of their written constitutions. In referring to the Rosebud group, the term Sičhą́ǧu and not Brulé has been chosen simply because neither they nor the neighboring Oglálas use the term Brulé, which so often appears in the liteature.
