Kuantu was in the northeast of the present Chungmou County, Honan Province, and the scene of the battle between the armies of Tsao Tsao and Yuan Shao in A.D. 200.

Since the National Conference on Learning from Tachai, the organs of Honan Military District and detachments under its direct authority have transferred some 60 cadres, led by principal leaders of the military district, to 4 brigades in Chungmou County to develop the movement of learning from Tachai.

The rival villagers failed to settle their dispute, which quickly grew to involve thousands of people in Zhongmou County, located between the cities of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng, according to two accounts of the incident.[…] One person briefed about the clashes said that authorities may have been particularly alarmed after police stopped a 17-truck convoy carrying Hui men to the area from other counties and provinces as it passed through Qi County, near Zhongmou.
