Damagou

The temple, dating back more than 1,500 years, was located about seven kilometres from the Damagou Township of Cele County. The Tuopulukedun Temple is 2.25 meters long and two meters wide, with walls about 1.3 meters high.

If imagery could reflect the exchange between the exploratory spiritual characteristics of Indian religions and the attention of Chinese thought to social reality, the thousand-eyed seated Buddha wooden tablet paintings unearthed in Damagou Township, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region would be an excellent case in point.

This conference will be jointly sponsored by Peking University Research Center for Buddhist Texts and Art and Hotan College, hosted and organized by Hotan College, Khotanese Academy, and the Research Centre for the Khotanese Buddhist Culture. It is scheduled to take place in Hetian/Hotan, Xinjiang, from June 25-30, 2025. The schedule is as follows: arrival on June 25, full conference sessions on June 26-27, field research trips (tentatively, to Damiku/Damagou 達瑪溝, Rawak 熱瓦克, Hotan Cultural Museum 和田博物館, and Mount Niujiao 牛角山 or Niutou 牛頭山 (Mt. Gośīrṣa)] on June 28-29, and departure on June 30.
