The most accurate instrument for delivering a 'touch' stimulus is probably the kinohapt (Bartley, 1958), which is a tiny stylus released by a solenoid to rest on the skin for a definite time with a definite and measurable pressure.
1967, David Cecil Sinclair, Cutaneous sensation, page 27In more recent years several different investigators constructed electromechanical devices called kinohapts, whereby tiny styli could be raised and lowered on the skin with more or less uniform impact and with precise timing.
