- countableuncountablechemistryA black, basaltic igneous rock consisting of a ground mass of automorphic augite and magnetite with many embedded phenocrysts, usually of olivine.
It resembles the analcite basalts of the Highwood Mountains, in Montana, and the monchiquites of Brazil.
