Never Ending September1
- alternativeAlternative form of never-ending September.
1. The FAQ points out that USENET is not what it used to be before the Never Ending September. Third party cancelling used to be sternly looked down upon. Spam, floods, gibberish, have changed the scene.

>Sheesh, I think the responses to Jerry's "test message" created >more net traffic "noise" than his message alone. Obviously. It is just as obvious to people with experience with the net that test messages are a bane that came with the Never Ending September and exceeded only by spam and flamewars. If these ~6 messages prevent the next dozen test messages we will have come out ahead.
1997 May 18, Vernon Schryver, “netscape class”, in boulder.general (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025I've been doing this "net thing" for the past, uh... (dan^([sic]) looks at calendar and _tries_ to remember when he "appropriated" that URI internet account) going on 7 years, just before The Never Ending September.
1999 April 22, Daniel Podgurski, “17/f looking for a guy”, in alt.rhode_island (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025The FAQ you posted was written in the early 90s. At the time the circle of people on Usenet was relatively small, well before the Never Ending September arrived. The FAQ was also written assuming that everyone was a nice, or at least a reasonable, person.
2000 June 2, Jim Manson, “All of this...”, in alt.support.attn-deficit (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025This is ,if I caclulated it correctly, day 3738 of the Sepember^([sic]) That Never Ended. The Never Ending September started September 1993 when AOL unleashed its gibbering hordes on an unsuspecting Usenet...
2004 June 28, Brad Sims, “stepford wives will happen but what about robo love?”, in rec.arts.sf.written (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025>I've been here since 1995 and I can tell you with much certainty that >the AOL users were not the ones who made the changes. Happened in 1993. The Never Ending September. And yes, it was AOL that kicked it off, though given the growth of the Internet, it was bound to happen eventually.

] I was wondering if there were any swingers in Manitoba? And specifically ] Winnipeg? They were driven off during the first part of the never ending September of 1993, but inter-provincial flame wars. Now that the problem has been solved (i.e. the filtering of outside posts to Manitoba _only_ news groups), there is no one left.
1998 April 8, Sean Ennis, “Were^([sic]) are all the swingers.”, in man.general (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025> What is the absolutely earliest documented use of this phrase? Who really > started it? > I'm pretty sure this goes back to those Halcyon days before The Great Renaming, many moons before the never ending September that we now live in. Strange days indeed were these for those that lived through them.
1999 August 12, Paul Sweeney, “There is no Cabal”, in alt.fan.cecil-adams (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025Back when I first started using USENET, you couldn't use it unless you were 18+ : no dial-up accounts then, only students, professors and corporate types. The invasion of the dial-up accounts in the 90's and the comparisons with the new terms at Uni's/Colleges - forming the basis of "the never ending September" phrase :-(
2000 October 12, Stuart Millington, “argy bargy”, in freeserve.webspace.authoring (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025Anyway, even if these are wrong, I get the gist. Basically you are saying you like it when people quote 130 lines of SPAM to make an unfunny one-line remark. I guess it's pointless to ask if you remember the never ending September of 1993[1]. […] [1] The September 1993 is described here: - […]
2001 February 26, Lemming, “CABLE BOX DESCRAMBLER PLANS ((LEGAL)),.,.,,.,,,,,,. 7063”, in alt.support.stop-smoking (Usenet), archived from the original on 08 Dec 2025Bullshit. Nobody who was using Usenet in 1980 does TOFU posting. Up until the never ending September of 1993, anybody who didn't learn to trim their quoted text would have been hounded off of any reasonable newsgroup.
