   Scumming is a weird concept in that it can apply to anything that hardcore roguelikers dislike. Exploiting bugs would be considered scumming. Circumventing the save file deletion scheme would be considered scumming. Finding a weak monster that yields lots of treasure and killing it repeatedly would be considered scumming.

   Roguelikers are very used to "You hit the rat. The rat misses you." to the point at which it has no personal meaning. The player knows he himself is not under attack, and does not care about the character under attack apart from in game terms. Third person descriptions are similarly detached.
