  1. rareA participant in the open-source multi-user dungeon AberMUD.

Also, much phrasing and the name of the test were changed to appease the Abermudders. This makes quite a bit of the phrasing rather awkward.

I just want to thank all to^([sic]) Abermudders who came to my house last Monday: […] It was a rockin' good time, but I don't think I will ever get all the pillow fluff cleaned up.

Both LPC and MOO support the "object as a programming object" style of coding which seems central to good adventure game design (except to the Abermudders; Ubermud oriented things this way too).

That's nice. However, that does not mean this is ONLY for Aber mud discussions. Also, it does not mean that a thread about Aber muds can ONLY be read or posted to by other Abermudders- particularly when the issue at hand is not really Abermud specific.

Also, Bryan, I do know a number of Abermudders who have been around longer than you have. Most of them are on little-frequented muds these days (such as Argent), but they are and have been around. (Trent, Ren, Pooka, Martyr, Elims, Chronos, Tanya, etc.) As an avid Abermudder for many years myself, I would like to inform anyone still even READING this thread that the opinions contained in this and all other ABER rec.games.mud.misc posts are merely a small (but very vocal) non-representative section of the Abermud world.

Please look closely at the names of the posters. You'll realize there are a handful of "bad apples" in the Abermud barrel. And I hasten to point out that one of the MOST vocal in the recent "Aber" threads is Aristotle, who has repeatedly stated he is NOT an Abermudder. There exist a number of Abers where these annoyances are not welcome and are not present.

As far as I can see there is no dispute over who started the group. The idea of exiling tinyMUDDers^([sic]) to alt.mud.tiny was their idea not mine. TinyMUDDers never once said let's take over this news group and throw all the LP and AberMUDders into their own little section. I think that segregation of the two groups was a childish idea.

1990 April 27, Edwin Huang, “This is amazing.”, in alt.mud (Usenet)

Oh. I have a good understanding of the situation all right :). It's a mindset thing. People who play one type of MUD extensively become desensitised to the rest of the MUDs out there, and how they work. Put an AberMUDder and a MUSHaholic on a system together. Will they even be able to communicate? 'page' is not a recognised verb; try typing 'help'. etc etc. We discuss combat and questing as multi-charring issues. They're practically irrelevant when you come to talkers and TinyM*s.

1996 April 1, Martin Keegan, “the evils of multi-playing”, in rec.games.mud.misc (Usenet)

Occasionally in my MUDding "career" (don't know a better word), some, like Crimefighter, Zero_Divide, Shi, etc.. have attempted to portray me as the omnipresent and omni-evil Legolas, Destroyer of MUDs and Manipulator of MUDders. *chuckle* I've been portrayed as many, many things, and yet, I have remained throughout many years, indeed becoming the second-oldest (that I know of, anyway) AberMUDder in terms of years spent AberMUDding.
