What started as a nice fall day turned into a slopfest as a steady drizzle of rain began after the practice sessions. While the first set of motos was bearable, the second round brought out the riders’ desire as only the diehards survived.

You don’t want to hike to Maligne Pass during or just after heavy rain. Much of the way is naturally wet, especially the area immediately past Avalanche campground. And horses have been churning the mud since the two adventurous Marys – Schaffer and Adams – were guided through Maligne Pass in 1908. The trip is still popular with horse packers. As a result, hiking here can be a slopfest. Hope for a dry spell.
