West St. Modeste

West St. Mod·este
/ˈwɛst ˈseɪnt mɒˈdɛst/

proper noun

A town in Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

Meanings

Origin

From a Basque source. The current toponym appears to refer to Saint Modesta (died c. 680), but it is unclear how the Basque toponym changed into the name of the saint. The element west was added to distinguish the settlement from East St. Modeste.
