Meanings
- not comparablegrammarOf, or relating to the grammatical case that in some languages indicates the transition away from a state.

From ex- (“out of”) + essive. According to linguist Tiit-Rein Viitso, the case was originally called the excessive (derived from Latin excessus (“departure”)), which would make the spelling exessive a case of folk etymology.
